Due to inclement weather, the City is rescheduling the Abelia Hedge Community Workday two weeks. Join the city and Gardeners for the Common Good on Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for a community workday to remove the ivy, honeysuckle and briars that are choking the city's iconic abelia hedge.
An estimated 50-100 volunteers are needed to tackle the ivy removal. All that's needed are gloves, a refillable water bottle, and a willingness to get down and dirty. Pruners and weeding tools are optional, but could be helpful.
The hedge will be broken into sixteen sections for ivy removal, and volunteers will be assigned to a section.
- Have a group that could assist?
- Need community service hours?
- Are you an experienced gardener who could help instruct volunteers?
Check in on S. Avondale at Exeter prior to the 10 a.m. start to be assigned a section.
