The City of Avondale Estates recently launched a survey to discern people’s opinions and priorities for the park space at the planned Town Green. Close to 400 respondents, most identifying as residents of Avondale Estates, participated in the survey that asked people’s opinions about the overall goals for the park design, programming needs and desires, and use expectations.
About 96% of respondents plan to visit the park at least monthly with more than 73% believe you will visit weekly. Respondents said they want an active park, designed to be of interest to people of all ages and abilities, with things to do and see daily. The top three daily activities are 1) Food 2) Exercise 3) Group activities such as yoga. Over 94% want the space to be programmed with events, festivals, and activities. More 80% expect the park to be programmed quarterly and the majority would like to see it programmed monthly. Dogs, Children, and Events were referenced frequently by participants as desired considerations.
Moving forward, these results indicate that the space needs to be flexible and able to hold multiple uses; durable enough for frequent use; welcoming and accessible for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities; and comfortable for year-round use. These findings echo the original goals of the park design process that were also rated positively by most respondents.
