Avondale Estates 2nd Annual Lantern Parade - Light Up the Lake!
Saturday, October 13, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Join your neighbors and friends to Light Up the Lake in Avondale Estates!
Kick off the night by displaying your lantern creations during the monthly ArtWalk that begins at 5 pm. Enjoy food and drink in downtown Avondale's local restaurants or simply grab something from ArtWalk street vendors!
At 7:30 p.m., make your way across the street to gather at the grass triangle at Berkley/Kensington Rd. The parade will promptly begin at 7:45 p.m. to the lake. Spectators are welcome to view the parade on the grassy slopes on Lakeshore or Berkley Road.
Parking is available at City Hall and on residential streets. (see map below)
Schedule of Events
7:30 p.m.: Gather at Berkeley/Kensington Road Triangle
7:45 p.m.: Parade Begins
Lake Avondale: Animated, floating light displays presented by Chantelle Rytter on Lake Avondale, larger than life heron and owl puppets will parade around the lake, DJ at the gazebo and fun until 9 p.m.!
Parade Route:
Parade south down Berkeley Rd; go left and cross the bridge; follow the path down Lakeshore Drive side and circle Lake Avondale.
Parade Rules:
You MUST have a lantern to participate in the parade!
Please leave PETS at home.
Follow the ROUTE as indicated on the map.
About the Avondale Lake Display:
A variety of animated and lighted floating lantern creations, created by the Chantelle Rytter Krew of the Grateful Gluttons, will be on Lake Avondale, starting at 7:30. You'll see
- 30 ft. Alice the Albino Alligator
- Illuminated Giant Pumpkin and Skeletons
- Large Blue Heron and Flying Owl puppeteers parading along the shoreline
- A dazzling display of illuminated lanterns reflected in the lake as participants move to the music!

Garage Door Studio will have basic globe lantern kits available for $25.

Chantelle Rytter, the originator of the BeltLine, Decatur, and Sandy Springs Lantern Parades, will be leading four of the lantern making workshops at Little Tree Art Studios (2834 Franklin St, Avondale Estates). All lantern making materials will be provided at the workshop with your registration.
